AT - Acoustic Emission Analysis
Detecting and Evaluating faults

Acoustic Emission Testing (AT)
AT is a non-destructive testing method capable of detecting and locating faults in mechanically loaded structures, components and specimens. AT provides comprehensive information on the origin of faults in a loaded object and the development of the fault as a function of load.

Acoustic Emission (AE)
AE is the term used when defects in metals, plastics and other materials rapidly release energy when subjected to mechanical loading. The energy propagates in form of high frequency stress waves. These types of oscillations are picked up by AE sensors on the surface of the specimen and converted to electrical signals, so-called bursts. The AE analysis is the characterization of the bursts according to intensity and frequency content. Analyzing bursts from several sensors at well placed positions on the test object allows for determination of the location of the AE source(s) on the test object.

AT has proven itself in applications such as the monitoring of components and structures under load, in quality assurance and investigating fracture behavior in materials and compounds. AT is used successfully in a wide range of applications including: detecting and locating faults in pressure vessels, corrosion or leakage in storage tanks or pipe systems, identifying wear on plastic extruders, monitoring welding applications, corrosion processes, partial discharges from components subjected to high voltage and the removal of protective coatings, and more.

Since 1987 we at Vallen Systeme GmbH have provided our target clientele – inspection companies, material researchers and testers, and quality assurance departments - with expertise and partnership in the development and application of AE systems and accessories, as well as hardware and software for new and demanding applications.
