1.) Why sensor testing is a must:
- To assure that sensor sensitivity is as good as expected
- To meet the requirements of your quality management system
2.) When you should test your sensors:
- when a sensor has been dropped
- when a sensor has been used in harsh environment
- when a sensor has been exposed to unusual temperature
ranges(low or high)
- when you receive a new sensor
- every 3 months
- when you are in doubt about the sensitivity
The Vallen Sensor Tester
discovers any sensitivity change of your sensors!
The Vallen Sensor Tester is an easy to use 32-bit
software tool to perform sensor testing. It runs on the AMSY-5/AMSY4 and controls
a function generator used to drive an emitter with a well known frequency response
mounted face to face with the SUT (Sensor Under Test) receiving
the signal. The VST software also controls the AMSY-5/AMSY4 data acquisition. While stepping
through the desired (software adjustable) frequency range
the frequency response of the sensor is recorded.
Example for results of a sensor test:

Amplitude in dB versus Frequency in kHz
The upper green line has been recorded with a sensor model VS150-M when it was shipped. The red line has been recorded after the sensor has been dropped on a concrete floor.
